Offering a chance to locals to explore their city, a travel boutique called No Footprints is set to introduce free guided tours. This will be done on the lines of free tours that are popular across Europe, which function on a tip-only basis. Esha Singh, head, consumer operations said, "We have been budget travellers all our lives and have greatly benefitted from the free guided tours around the world. There is no better way to learn about the history of a place. And, we thought it’s about time Mumbai had its own."
While they have worked extensively to design tours in the city for foreign tourists, this one, Singh says, will cater to both. "There are several heritage tours in the city but they come at a price. And most locals would not want to burn a hole in their pockets. Also, the fact remains that as locals too, we have a lot to learn. Recently, we did a Mumbai by Dawn tour, that is usually aimed at foreigners, for locals, and we got a great response. That egged us more to launch this tour," she adds.
No Footprints has a network of 30 trained guides, and around 15 of them have volunteered to conduct the free tour. "Anyone can volunteer to be a tour guide. They shall be trained," Singh says. The guides will take tourists around the listed spots and at the end of the tour, guests can leave tips with him, any amount of their choice. The choice to pay, too, is 100 per cent voluntary.
