American actor Will Smith has revealed that tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams were in tears after they watched King Richard, which depicts the relationship the sisters shared with their father.

According to Tennis World USA, Smith said on Jimmy Fallon’s chat show: “It took me a long time to make all of this and I was hoping they liked it too. Venus and Serena cried the whole time and loved it.”

Smith recalled how Venus and Serena’s father used to stop them from practising whenever they got into trouble. “It aligned with what the daughters wanted more than demanding what he wanted for them. It was a good family story,” remarked Smith.

The Reinaldo Marcus Green-directed movie was presented at the Telluride Film Festival this September and  will be released in America on Friday. While fans will be able to watch the sports film across Europe from January 13, 2022.
