American tennis ace Serena Williams has invested USD1 million (approx Rs 7.62crore) into British sports venture, OpenSponsorship. The firm founded by entrepreneur Ishveen Jolly, helps athletes find sponsors. Williams, who got associated with the initiative nine years ago, plans to make a difference through Serena Ventures. “The only way that people can get funding is if people like me, women and people of colour, are actually writing the checks. Otherwise, it’s going to be the same boys’ club, except not for a lot of Black people,” she told Insider.
