Ex-internationals hit turf for veterans hockey event in Mumbai

A host of former international hockey stars from the city will be seen in action at the One Team One Dream Senior Hockey Carnival, a six-a-side veterans tournament, to be played at the Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd Stadium at Churchgate this weekend (October 30-31).


The eight-team competition for players above 40 years will comprise some of the city’s prominent hockey clubs like Mumbai Port Trust, Hockey Navi Mumbai, Hockey Dadar, Ave Maria and Sea View, who will be joined by Sunday Sultans, OTOD Hockey Worldwide and UTSC Dubai to complete the line-up.



Former India hockey stars like Gavin Ferreira, Edgar Mascarenhas Jr, Dhananjay Mahadik, Devindar Kumar and Cornelius D’Costa among others have confirmed their participation for the tournament that will be played on a league-cum-knockout basis.


The four teams in each pool will first play a round-robin league, following which the top two teams will play the Championship final which will carry a winner’s prize purse of Rs 15,000 and a runner-up cash award of Rs 7,500. The second and third teams from the two pools will compete for the Level-I and Level-II finals. The tournament will be played between 2 pm and 6 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
