"I am inspired most by science and by Nikola Tesla," Djokovic said on the sidelines of the Dubai Open, the ATP 500 event he has won four times already.
"He is one of the biggest scientists that ever lived. He left behind some incredible inventions, like alternating current that we use today. And radar and radio and so forth. He's the pride of our country. And he's somebody that I look up to as an inspiration and as a guide through life, in a way.
"He wasn't just a scientist, but somebody who was a pacifist. Somebody who loved people around the world and spread positive energy."
Tesla, once an apprentice of Thomas Edison, is famous for his contribution to electrical devices and wireless communication. One of the more flamboyant scientists, Tesla also has the SI unit of magnetic flux density named after him.
Love for music
Djokovic himself has been known to be quite a showman. And the World No 1, once famous for mimicking his fellow players, says he finds interest and inspiration from an assortment of things.
"I have different interests. Sometimes maybe too much, and my wife always tells me to try to keep it together and focus on what I do. I love music, I want to learn how to play the saxophone one day," he said.
