Gold Coast: American Katie Ledecky set a second world record in two days by shattering her own 1500m freestyle record at the Pan Pacific championships yesterday.

The 17-year-old schoolgirl smashed her record by almost six seconds with a time of 15 minutes 28.36 seconds, to claim her fifth gold medal at the meet here.
Ledecky had set the previous 1500m record (15:34.23) in June. On Saturday she beat her 400m freestyle WR at the Gold Coast meet, clocking 3:58.37 to eclipse her previous mark by 0.49sec. Ledecky holds the world records in the 400m, 800m, 1500m freestyle.
Lochte out, Phelps in
Meanwhile, five-time Olympic gold medallist Ryan Lochte lost out by 0.23 secs on a final spot to Michael Phelps in the 200m individual medley.
