St Francis D'Assisi's defender-turned-forward Ganesh Devendra shines
Match after match, Ganesh Devendra has thwarted rival strikers with his sturdy and solid defence techniques. But yesterday, when he was asked by St Francis D'Assisi coach Thomas Barreto to don the role of a striker, Ganesh was up for the challenge.
Ganesh scored twice and helped his team win their important under-16 Division One play-off against Mahim's Bombay Scottish at Azad Maidan. Sunny Thakur completed the 3-0 drubbing.
Since the time Ganesh started playing football, he has been manning defence, but yesterday he proved that he could play at any position.
"I am happy playing as a defender and striker as long as we emerge victorious.
"I never scored before in the MSSA tournament so I am very happy to score two goals for my team," said an elated Ganesh.
