Sreesanth faces domestic ban for on-filed spat

After being involved in a spat with Mumbai's Dhawal Kulkarni during the Irani Cup tie in Nagpur, the Rest of India bowler was fined 60 per cent of his match fees. Moreover, if the Kerala bowler breaches the code of conduct again, he could even be banned for a few games.

In his verdict, match referee KP Bhaskar said: "You are being charged under clause 2.8 of level 2 for using language that is obscene, offensive, or of a generally insulting nature to another player, umpire, referee, team official or spectators. You are being fined 60 per cent of match fee and a strict warning that next time a breach in the code of conduct occurs, you shall be charged under level 3 offence.

"A Level 3 offence would lead to a ban from some games, which would be at the discretion of the match referee."

Mumbai's Kulkarni, who was ruled to have instigated Sreesanth, was let off with a warning.

"You have been charged under clause 1.4 under level 1 for offences for instigating and wrongly accusing the bowler from the opposition, and bringing the game to a halt," Bhaskar told Kulkarni in his judgement.

While Kulkarni did not wish to comment on the matter, Sreesanth did not respond to MiD DAY's several attempts to get in touch with him.
