Sobbing Suranjoy will hit back, insists coach Sandhu

India's pugilist Suranjoy Singh was waving his fingers sideways to the crowd signalling that the result of his bout was flawed even as the referee lifted his Chinese opponent Chang Yong's hand declaring him a 6-5 winner in yesterday's 52kg semi-final bout.

Suranjoy as well as Indian coaches GS Sandhu and Iglesias Fernandez clearly showed their displeasure to the judges for not awarding points to the Indian despite him having landed a series of punches to the Chinese's face.

Chang, who was fighting for the first time in an international competition, also conceded: "My opponent was very strong."

Coach Sandhu said: "Suranjoy is upset with the result and is in tears backstage. He was a sure shot gold medallist for us, but I can't comment about the umpiring as it comes under the code of conduct.

"However, I promise one thing ufffd this defeat will only spur Suranjoy on to greater heights. He will work even harder and will surely win a medal at the 2012 London Olympics."
