Itu00a0has been a big month of racing at Mahalaxmi, with two Indian classics run off, and it was but fitting for the MiD DAY Trophy yesterday to be the final flourish of what has been a grand year for the sport at the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC).
The MiD DAY race day, now into its third year, has come to be looked forward to for its celebrity guest list, with a Bollywood star as the show stopper. Following John Abraham and Akshay Kumar in the past, this time it
was Saif Ali Khan in his trade mark jeans and jacket, who was the guest of honour. He just made it in time to watch the dozen thoroughbreds make a dash for the prize. It was only fitting that Saif did the honours ufffd himself from a royal lineage ufffd to be associated with a royal sport. It was natural that his presence took some of the spotlight away from the actual race which was won by Michele Marieci, owned by the Dhunjibhoy family, coincidentally winners of this race last year.
The race, run in recognition of the media partnership between MiD DAY and the Club, keeps getting bigger and better. The pre- race promotion, the attendees who enjoyed the equine action on a pleasant Sunday afternoon, the race itself, topped off by the mighty Nawab himself, made it yet another memorable day at
the Races.
