Our boxers didn't even break into a sweat, says coach GS Sandhu

Asian champion Suranjoy Singh was the first pugilist from India to storm into the final of theu00a0 Commonwealth Boxing Championships at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium here. Suranjoy made short work of Welshman Andrew Selby by winning 4-1 in the 52kg category.

Olympic bronze medallist Vijender Singh (75kg), Dinesh Kumar (81kg) and Parmjeet Samota (+91kg) later followed the Manipur boxer into the title round.

"I am happy that all of them won their semi-final bouts," said India's chief coach Gurbax Singh Sandhu.
"Suranjoy was impeccable. Vijender was in his element, while Dinesh and Paramjeetu00a0 did not break into sweat as they stormed past their opponents."

Suranjoy, while describing his victory said, he would like to prove himself again after missing out on a world championship medal in Milan last year. "My focus is on the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games. This event will keep me in good stead for those events."

Talking about Suranjoy's bout, Sandhu said: "Right from the first round he was on the mark. He never gave his opponent space to attack and played with a closed guard. He should have got more points, but in the end what matters is victory."
