Infrastructure has been a major obstacle to the progress of Indian sports and finally one firm has come up with a solution that, logically, has all the makings of a success story.

TransStadia have plans to build multi-purpose stadiums across the country in the next five to seven years that will felicitate the hosting of major sporting events, which is not possible in the current scenario.

The multi-purpose stadiums will also help sportsmen train at the specially built academy and will also have advanced sports medicine facilities.

One such project is already underway in Ahmedabad and Udit Sheth, Managing Director and CEO of the company is hoping work will soon start in other cities as well.

"Infrastructure has been a big problem in Indian sports and we thought that was an area we could improve upon so that sports can develop in India. Most stadiums are used only for a few days and are inactive for majority of the time. Multipurpose stadiums help not only in utilising the available resource to the maximum, it also allows sportsmen from across all sports to avail the best of facilities under one roof," Sheth said. The project is the first of its kind in India and if it works, could change the fortunes of many sports in India.
