Canossa High School (Mahim) registered a 2-0 win over Greenlawns High School (BP Road) to enter the semi-finals of the Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA) girls U-16 Division II inter-school football match at Azad Maidan on Friday.

Canossa took the lead in the 18th minute through Akansha Akre, who tapped the ball to the left side of the goal via an assist from Cyneka D'Sa. After the break, the Mahim outfit dominated the next half and doubled their lead in the 32nd minute through Cyneka on a solo run.
Cyneka dribbled past Greenlawns goalkeeper Anushi Varia and shot the ball in the right side of the goal to end the match 2-0. In fact, both Cyneka and Akansha play as strikers in the team and are also the top scorers with five goals each. Canossa High School reached the semi-finals after several years.
"I am happy to score so many goals for my team. I hope to score more and win the title," said Cyneka. "We are just a game away from the final and I would be glad if we win the title," said Akansha.
Raphael Vaz coach of Canossa High School hailed his team performance: "We stuck to our plan and I’m glad it worked for us. I am happy as we are promoted to Division I.” Greenlawns coach Suraj Kapur said: "They were a better team; we did not capitalise on our chances".
JB Petit up
Meanwhile, JB Petit High School (Fort) beat Canossa High School (Andheri) 2-0 in the girls’ U-16 Division II inter-school football match at Azad Maidan.
Oorvi Yarnal and Lea Moutounet scored a goal each for the Fort outfit which is also through to the semi-finals where they face Canossa High School (Mahim) on September 22 at Cooperage.
