IES Raja Shivaji's opening bowlers Akshay Ramane and Sankesh Morye have been bowling in partnership foru00a0 the last four years, but the pair face the toughest test of their inter-school cricketing career as they look to dismantle Springfield Rizvi for the second time in succession in their bid to win the Harris Shield title.
Raja Shivaji could only manage 190 in their first innings in reply to Rizvi's 259. However, they cashed in with the new ball as the champions were reduced to 26 for 2 at stumps on Day Two.
The duo want to prove that their performance in the first innings was no flash in the pan. Despite becoming the first team to bowl out the defending champions within a day, they weren't too happy as the Dadar side couldn't seize the initiative after reducing them to 36 for 4.
"We failed to hold on to our chances in the first innings," said Sankesh who trapped wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Dhaga early in the second innings yesterday. His strike partner Akshay wasn't far behind as he dismissed danger-man Armaan Jaffer for nought.
"He was one of the wickets that we were looking to take early on," said Akshay, who has been the more successful of the two bowlers, claiming 16 scalps so far, with Sankesh having taken just six. As for their task at hand, Akshay said: "We have been bowling together for a long time now and enjoy building up pressure on the opposition. We are confident of doing well."
