Guangzhou glory for Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis!

Close on the heels of her US Open triumph, Indian tennis ace wins sixth title of the year with Swiss Martina -- after 6-3, 6-1 win over Chin's Xu Shilin and You Xiaodi

Guangzhou (China): The World No 1 team of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis continued their dominating run by winning their sixth title of the year at the Guangzhou Open on Saturday.

The top seeds hammered China’s Xu Shilin and You Xiaodi 6-3, 6-1 in the final to win their second WTA title in a row. Such has been their domination that they have not dropped a set en route the title.


It was Mirza’s seventh title of the season and sixth with Hingis. The Hyderabadi won one trophy with American Bethanie-Mattek Sands in Sydney.

Mirza and Hingis have been enjoying their success on tennis courts across the world since coming together in March 2015.

Mirza-Hingis have now won six of 13 events they have played — Indian Wells, Miami, Charleston, Wimbledon, US Open and now Guangzhou. They have a 42-7 win-loss record together.

After a first round bye, Mirza-Hingis beat Anna-Lena Friedsam and Monica Niculescu in the quarters, 6-2 6-3, and then Julia Glushko and Rebecca Peterson in the semis 6-3 6-4. Mirza-Hingis next go to Wuhan, where again they are top seeds.
