India's ace female hoopster scores 45 points as Southern Railway beat Maharashtra to retain Savio Cup

Southern Railway’s star and India’s most talented women’s basketball player Geethu Anna Jose was simply unstoppable, scoring whopping 45 points as her side beat Maharashtra 88-73 win to retain the women’s title in the Tridhatu Realty and United Phosphorous-Savio Cup basketball tournament at Don Bosco, (Matunga) yesterday.

The Maharashtra eves, who had an impressive all-win record in the run-up to the final, had not accounted for an inspired Geethu in the title clash. Geethu’s SR kicked off proceedings at a brisk pace and earned a 15-point lead in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Maharashtra’s senior players Manisha Dange and Shireen Limaye tried to control things but Geethu continued to score unerringly whenever served the ball close to the basket. Also on song was another SR player P Anitha, who scored 20 points. SR earned Rs 50,000 for their effort, while Maharashtra took home Rs 25,000.
