Kamran Ansari of Antonio D’Souza High School (ANZA, Byculla) stole the show by scoring four goals in their 6-0 win over Shri Mamabai High School (Chinchpokli) in the District Sports Office-organised Subroto Mukherjee boys’ U-17 knockout tournament at the Mumbai Schools Sports Association ground, Azad Maidan yesterday.

Tausif Khan and Murtuza Kazi netted a goal each in the win. ANZA coach Sajid Sabir Ansari said that the team’s win was commendable considering nine of their players, including Kamran, were fasting in the holy month of Ramzan.

Other players in the team who were fasting were Tausif, Murtuza, Umair Ansari, Dayan Ansari, Salman Ansari, Moin Ansari, Sharjil Ansari and Abdullah Ansari.

“I don’t think fasting affected my performance. Actually, I think I got stronger. I have played many matches on days which I have fasted,” said Kamran. The 14-year-old Madanpura lad though said that it wasn’t easy to play the match in hot and humid conditions. “I didn’t feel like not fasting but I do not deny that I found it difficult to play in hot conditions. I felt thirsty, but I could control it,” added the Class IX student.
