After Mahindra United, Mumbai is set to lose yet another of its football clubs as Bengal Mumbai Football Club (BMFC) have decided to disband their team that currently plays in the National Football League 2, which is a division below the I-League.

Owner Krishnendu Sen explained the reasons behind the disbanding of the team.u00a0

"I'm very sad to say that we are going to close down our football club. The future of the sport doesn't look very bright. For the last 11 years we have tried our best to sustain footballing glory in Mumbai but this year onwards we won't be able to make it," Sen told MiD DAY.

BMFC, who are Indian Football Association (IFA) Shield runners up, Sikkim Governor's Gold Cup runners up and two time NFL 2 qualifiers, was founded in 1998 and the Bomaby Port Trust (BPT) ground was considered to be their home ground. Indian Football "Hall of Fame" star Chima Okorie, who played for various clubs in England, Norway and Denmark, represented BMFC during the 2001-02 season and also coached the team in 2006.

Dronacharya award winner Syed Naeemuddin also had a coaching stint with the club. Shutting shop has been owners' way of dealing with losses in recent times. Phagwara outfit JCT recently decided to go the Mahindra way after they were relegated from the I-League last season.
