Borivli school's U-16 lads Raj, Abhishek, Tausheen use their track and field skills to succeed in football

It was an awesome threesome effort by St Xavier's (Borivli) boys, Raj Dodia, Abhishek Kamble and Tausheen Sheikh, who helped their team secure a 3-1 victory over Thakur Vidya Mandir (Kandivli) in the MSSA under-16 div III at Azad Maidan yesterday.

In fact, Raj, Tausheen and Abhishek are all good athletes and they claim it's their track and field ability that has helped them in football too.

Meanwhile, Raj said "I've represented Maharashtra at the state level in athletics, in the 2005 in the U-12 category, where I won two gold medals in 100m race and long jump events. Athletics has definitely helped improve my speed on the football field," Raj told MiD DAY yesterday.

Tausheen, a gold medalist in the relay event at the inter-school athletic meet at the Goregaon Sports Club last year said: "Athletics has not only helped improve our speed but also stamina. However our short sprints on the football field are all credit to athletics. Football is our priority now though."

Meanwhile, Abhishek may not have won any medals on the race track, however he is a keen sprinter nevertheless.

St Xavier's coach Xavier Pinto said: "All three are good runners and that helps."
