Aryaan Majumdar's brilliant brace along with Hriday Dhakad's goal helped their school Campion (Cooperage) defeat rivals Cathedral and John Connon (Fort) 3-1 in the Mumbai Schools Sports Association-organised under-16 Division 1 football tournament at Azad Maidan
yesterday.
Both teams looked extremely formidable as they battled it out on a sunny day and the attacking units tried to outplay each other from the beginning.
Cathedral scored their first goal six minutes into the contest when centre back Kabir Sukhwani took a shot from the half line and tackled Aryaan and Shaurya Motwani. In the process, the ball went to striker Sumeir Zaveri, deflected off him to Campion's Sandarbh Verma before entering the net.
The Fort outfit struck back in the first half itself with captain Aryaan scoring for his side. Shaurya chipped the ball and it landed right in the middle. Taking advantage of the situation, Hriday and Aryaan went after the ball. As it went past, Aryaan sensed an opportunity and pelted it in towards the right for a goal in the 30th minute.
Sumeir collided with Campion goalkeeper Rahul Verma, who injured his knee and head. At half-time both teams were 1-1. In the second half, Aryaan created an opportunity for his team.
He was yet again assisted by Shaurya and their main player Kabir was already marked by Hriday. Aaryan took control of the ball struck it into the right of the net in the 40th minute. The final goal was struck by Hriday in the 53rd minute.
