Under criticism from all quarters, striker Tevez insists team has only one thing on its mind qualifying for 2010 World Cup

The Manchester City striker was infuriated that suggestions have been made that the reason the Albiceleste are struggling to reach the World Cup is because of commitment issues.

After landing in Buenos Aires, Tevez was asked about the matter ahead of the crunch qualifiers against Peru and Uruguay in the next few days.

"Do they think that when I go out to play for the national team I'm thinking of the millions I have in the bank? I don't need to be given money to play in the national team," Reuters quoted him as saying.

After losing consecutive games against Brazil and Paraguay last month, Argentina are facing a race to earn either fourth or fifth place in the group.

Peru may be out of the reckoning, but Tevez thinks that they will travel with a plan to thwart his confidence-shy team.

"Nothing will come easy for us, we've just lost two qualifiers in a row," he added.

Meanwhile, though doubts about Diego Maradona's suitability for the job continue, Real Madrid director general Jorge Valdano believes that the coach will prove his critics wrong.

Valdano, a former Argentina international, added that Maradona will cruise through the remaining World Cup
qualifiers before he demonstrates his true qualities on the world's biggest stage in South Africa.

"He has the enormous challenge of taking Argentina to the World Cup," Valdano told AS.

"There are still two very difficult games to go, but I am convinced that he will qualify with no problems and that at the World Cup he will be able to show he is the best in the world as a trainer too."

Argentina face Peru and Uruguay in their final two qualification games, but there are no certainties that the two-time world champions will be among the planet's elite next summer.
