It was a memorable Dr HD Kanga Cricket League debut for eight-year-old Musheer Khan yesterday.
Musheer broke the record set by his brother and India U-19 cricketer Sarfaraz, who debuted in Kanga League at the age of 10 in 2007.

Playing for Sportsfield Cricket Club in the ‘G’ Division, Musheer clearly was one of the stars at the Oval Maidan.
Sportsfield could have been in deep trouble had it not been for Musheer’s batting effort. The young lad occupied the crease for almost an hour for his four runs in 42 deliveries. Rajawadi CC finally broke Sportsfield’s resistance after being all out for 87.
Sportsfield’s bowlers made up for their poor batting effort and bowled their opponents out for 40. Though Parag Mistry (5-18 & 3-15) was the pick of the bowlers for Sportsfield, Musheer impressed with two wickets for 12 in his six overs. T
he left-arm spinner claimed one wicket in his only over in the second innings. Rajawadi CC were 51-7 at the end of the match.
Sportsfield skipper Naushad Khan, who is Musheer’s coach–cum-father, said the morning session was crucial. “The wicket was bit damp in the morning as it rained in the morning.
It was important for someone to stay at the wicket and I am happy Musheer did that. This helped the team to score a bit more. At one stage even a total of 50 was looking difficult,” said Naushad.
The team’s coach Sanjay Gaitonde was impressed. “He is a special talent. The way he batted today was amazing. He batted with a lot of maturity,” he said.u00a0
