Last year’s finalists Don Bosco (Matunga) and St Stanislaus (Bandra) stayed unbeaten and sealed their berths in the quarter-final play-off round of the MSSA boys U-16 Div-I inter-schools football tournament 2023.

Reigning champions Don Bosco registered their second win as they defeated St Mary’s ICSE (Mazagaon) 1-0 in a Group ‘B’ match at the St. Francis D’Assisi High School ground, Borivli on Monday. Lanky striker Ethan Fernandes scored the lone goal. Bosco with seven points clinched the top position in the group to go through to the last 8.
Earlier, St Stanislaus, who finished runners-up last season, were lucky to play out a goalless draw with Christ Church School (Byculla) in a Group ‘D’ encounter. St Stanislaus, with six points from the first two wins, were assured of progressing to the knockout round. Stanislaus topped the group with seven points. Meanwhile, hosts St Francis D’Assisi HS (Borivli) overcame a spirited challenge from Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Vidyalaya (Malad) by posting a 2-0 win in a Div-II-B match.
