Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar will undergo surgery in Brazil at Belo Horizonte's Mater Dei Hospital, several local media outlets reported, with suggestions the operation could take place as early as Thursday. Radio Tupi reported Neymar, his father and agent Neymar Senior and Brazilian national team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar left Paris Wednesday night for Belo Horizonte where the operation is set for Thursday according to O Globo newspaper, one of Brazil's leading dailies.
But while website UoL also reported the surgery would take place in the southeastern Brazil city, it said it was scheduled for Sunday. Despite the reports, Mater Dei's press office told AFP it had not been contacted by Dr Lasmar, who is in charge of the procedure. The hospital is where Dr Lasmar -- originally from Belo Horizonte and chief doctor at local club Atletico Mineiro -- usually works, a position he holds alongside his role with the Brazil men's national team. After widespread rumors and speculation, PSG had announced Wednesday that the Brazil star would undergo an operation "at the end of the week" in his home country performed by Lasmar. Neymar suffered a sprained ankle and fractured metatarsal during PSG's 3-0 win against Olympique de Marseille in French Ligue 1 on Sunday.
