Barcelona star Luis Suarez’s wife Sofia Balbi has revealed that he lied to her about biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini during last year’s World Cup in Brazil, before he admitted the truth 10 days later.

The Uruguayan striker received a four-month ban for the incident and was criticised by the football world. That though didn’t stop him from earning a 75million pound (Rs 721 crore) move from Liverpool to the La Liga side.
His wife said that Suarez told her that he had not done anything, but TV replays suggested otherwise and it was only a good 10 days later that he owned up to his mistake.
Unbelievable truth
“He told me he hadn’t done it. That is what he had in his head and even I began to believe it. But the television and radio spoke only about the bite, and after 10 days of us being alone, he told me the truth,” she was quoted as saying by Canal 10 TV channel.
She said that on the day of the incident, he responded as if he had done nothing.
“On the day of the game, I phoned him and asked what he had done. He responded with ‘what?’ The same had happened in England and I insisted: ‘Again?’ He replied: ‘I haven’t done anything. Are you not happy because Uruguay qualified?”
Ever since his ban was lifted, Suarez has excelled for his new side Barcelona alongside Lionel Messi and Neymar, with the La Liga, Champions League and Copa del Rey all being a possibility.
