"The ISL will be a giant leap for Indian football. Like the IPL, the ISL too, will be popular and help the game reach every corner of the country," Banerjee told mid-day yesterday.

"It will add wings to football and I'm really hopeful that this will bring an era of change in Indian football. With the introduction of cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly, football will be more glamourised," he observed.
Work wonders
"If the corporate houses and stars associated with the franchises can bring better quality footballers who have just retired from international football, it will work wonders," he explained citing the example of Japan.
"They brought retired footballers from Latin America, mainly from Brazil and look at them now. The J-League is one of the best leagues in the world. The 2017 youth World Cup will get a tremendous boost, too, following the introduction of ISL," he said.
No one from the Kolkata franchise had contacted him but Banerjee said he was always available to guide them.
