London: Didier Drogba admits that he and his Chelsea teammates knew as early as March that they "were almost there" in their hunt for the Premier League title. The Blues could seal their first league championship in five years with victory over Crystal Palace today, with boss Jose Mourinho having played down their title chances throughout the season.

But striker Drogba says that the squad were almost certain that they would be champions when they lifted the League Cup trophy on March 1, a competition that they also won on their way to the club's first league title under the ownership of Roman Abramovich in 2005.

"I think 2004-05 was a bit different because they players were a bit more mature and they had a bit more experience," Drogba told the club's official website. "This year was important as well but we knew that the league was ... almost there."

Drogba has won the Premier League title with the Blues in 2005, 2006 and 2010, as well as numerous other trophies in his two spells at the club and, with Chelsea on the brink of adding another Premier League crown to their trophy cabinet, he is dreaming of being the man to get them over the line.

"I can't wait for Sunday because I was thinking, I've won three leagues and Sunday could be the fourth one," he said, "and then I start counting the FA Cups, League Cups, Champions League, Community Shields ... and I think it just became a habit.

"But something that you really need as a Chelsea player, at this club, you need trophies. For me to come back and go again in that direction means a lot to me.

"To score the winning goal ... wow, I would be very happy, very very happy, especially here at Stamford Bridge. It would be amazing. Sunday has to be a blue day."
