Bastian Schweinsteiger announced his retirement from international football with immediate effect today. The 31-year-old midfielder who also plays for English Premier League club Manchester United took to Twitter to make the announcement.

Although, when it comes to club football, the midfielder still has two years left with him until his Man United contract expires.

Schweinsteiger recently was married to long time girlfriend and former world number one tennis star Ana Ivanovic.
He last appeared during the Euro 2016 tournament earlier this month and scored a goal for his team as well.
He has made 120 appearances for the German national team and scored 24 goals.
