Apostolic Carmel (Bandra) made a positive start to their girls' U-16 Div-I league match of the Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) inter-school football tournament by scoring a goal in the opening seconds and a second in the final moments to script a deserving 2-0 win over Jamnabai Narsee (Juhu) at Azad Maidan yesterday.

Striker Glynelle Picardo scored with her first touch when she timed her run perfectly to meet Riya D'Souza's pass from the right. Glynelle then paved the way for the second goal when she cut down the left flank and chipped across for Keisha Fernandes whose shot bounced back from the right post.

Ash scores second goal
Attacking midfielder Ash D'Silva, who was following the move, pounced on the rebound and quickly dispatched the ball home seconds before the final whistle.
Ash was happy to score a goal in her first match and help their side to a winning start.

"It means a lot to score in the first game. It will give the rest of the team and me the confidence of playing for wins in the remaining games and the belief that we can reach the final," Ash, who had represented Maharashtra in the National U-15 championship in Odisha in June told mid-day.

Draw for Cathedral
Later in the day, a determined Cathedral & John Connon (Fort) struck at the death to share the spoils with Bombay Scottish (Mahim) in an evenly contested 1-1 draw.

Bombay Scottish, against the run of play, stunned the Cathedral citadel, when Pranita Nimkar's snap effort from the left deflected off the boots of a Cathedral defender and logged into the far corner in the 16th minute. Cathedral put up a solid fight and their efforts bore fruits when Kyra Aggarwal managed to break through the Scottish defence and bulge the net on the stroke of full-time.
