Former Mumbai opener Jay Bista’s 96-ball 98 helped Victory CC beat Dadar Union Sporting Club by 234 runs in the Madhav Mantri Centenary One-Day League on Sunday.

Bista now represents Uttarakhand in domestic cricket. Fellow opener Suved Parkar (94 off 97 balls, 10x4, 1x6) and medium pacer Atharva Poojari (5-26) were the other architects of Victory CC’s triumph at the Sachin Tendulkar Gymkhana, Kandivli.

Put in to bat, Victory CC posted 303-7 in the allotted 45 overs. Bista, 25, who scored 99 runs from five Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy games recently, played an attacking knock, laced with seven fours and four sixes. Former India U-19 cricketer Parkar, 20, also displayed the same intent while sharing a 200-run opening stand with Bista.

Discipline factor

Off-spinner Siddharth Singh and pacer Yash Malap claimed four and two wickets respectively for Dadar Union. However, Poojari made it a one-sided affair with his disciplined bowling (6-1-26-5), demolishing Dadar Union’s batting line-up for a paltry 69 in just 16.1 overs. Off-spinner Shashank Attarde claimed 2-1, while left-arm spinners Vijay Gohil and Tanish Jain took a wicket apiece.

‘Huge relief’

“This performance provides me huge relief and a confidence boost. I had surgery on my right shoulder exactly a year ago. After proper rehabilitation I played around seven to eight games, but did not get wickets. But, today [Sunday] I got my belief back with a five-wicket haul,” Poojari told mid-day.
