Team India’s new ODI skipper Rohit Sharma is not sweating over the dismal show against South Africa, where the visitors failed to register a single win under stand-in captain KL Rahul last month. Rohit missed the South Africa tour after not recovering in time from a hamstring injury.

Fit-again Rohit, 34, who will lead the country in their 1000th ODI game, felt there is no need to press the panic button after just one series loss. “There is not a lot that we need to change, we just need to adapt to different situations of the game. We have played good ODI cricket over the past few years. So, suddenly one series loss doesn’t mean that we create panic.

“The South Africa series was a great learning curve for us in terms of what we did not do collectively as a team,” Rohit said during a virtual press conference on the eve of the first ODI against West Indies.

Instead of changing the entire template, Rohit stressed on the need of having role clarity for every player. “It is always important that everyone comes together and plays the role that has been given to them.

“Going forward, the role clarity of certain individuals is important in the squad. If we talk to the individuals about it, then we can get what we want from different individuals at different stages of the game,” Rohit remarked.
