With just six days left for the second and final Test between India and New Zealand to be played at the Wankhede Stadium, hosts Mumbai Cricket Association still awaits the state government’s nod to allow fans for the Test and the number of spectators to be allowed due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The MCA’s Apex Council met on Friday and the association expects to be allowed 25 to 50 per cent of the total capacity. MCA president Dr Vijay Patil took a round of the stadium to ensure it is up and ready for the match.

Wankhede last hosted a Test match in 2016 (India v England). In other key developments, the MCA will issue a showcause notice to senior team selector Anand Yalvigi for alleging that Apex Council member Kiran Powar threatened him for not picking a player. Powar’s clarification letter was accepted at the meeting.
