Kolkata Knight Riders' Mitchell Starc made an outstanding comeback in the IPL 2024 qualifier one against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The pacer bagged three wickets for 34 runs in his four-over spell. Hyderabad managed to score 159 runs in the IPL 2024 qualifier one match against Kolkata.

Having won the toss, Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins opted to bat first in the IPL 2024 qualifier one match against Kolkata Knight Riders. Explosive opening duo Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma failed to continue their momentum in the momentum. Head was dismissed for a duck by KKR's lead pacer Mitchell Starc. Abhishek on the other hand, scored three runs before getting dismissed in Vaibhav Arora's over. Coming to bat at number three, Rahul Tripathi proved his worth. Facing 35 balls, he scored 55 runs including 7 fours and 1 six. Nitish Kumar Reddy also departed after scoring nine runs. Abdul Samad returned to the pavilion in 16 runs, Heinrich Klaasen accumulated 32 runs but failed to convert it into huge scores. Shahbaz Ahmed, Sanvir Singh and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were the other batsmen to return to the pavilion without scoring a single run. SRH captain Pat Cummins kept fighting till the end and scored 30 runs off 24 deliveries which were laced with 2 fours and 2 sixes. Vijayakanth Viyaskanth stayed unbeaten on seven runs.
Kolkata's lead pacer Mitchell Starc who was criticised for having a poor run in the IPL 2024 was the standout bowler in the match. Starc registered three wickets for 32 runs in four overs. Spinner Varun Charavarthy registered two wickets by conceding 26 runs in four overs spell. Vaibhav Arora, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell and Harshit Rana registered one wicket each to their names. Star all-rounder Sunil Narine was the most expensive bowler from Kolkata's perspective. He leaked 40 runs in four over and claimed one wicket.
The winning team from today's IPL 2024 qualifier one will directly seal their place in the finals. The losing team will get a chance to play on May 24 against the winner of the qualifier two. The second qualifier of the IPL 2024 will be played between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru on May 22.
