A total of 165-6 was not an ideal score for Rajasthan Royals against Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede

Stadium on Sunday. But given they were 92-4 after 15 overs, captain Sanju Samson would not be complaining. And this was possible thanks to Shimron Hetmyer’s unbeaten 36-ball 59.

At the time of going to press, Lucknow Super Giants were 52-3 after nine overs. Deepak Hooda and Quinton de Kock were batting on 25 and 17
respectively.

Hetmyer was watchful to begin with given the precarious situation the team was in when Rajasthan Royals lost three wickets in the span of 10 balls. But the West Indian southpaw knew exactly when to shift gears, unleashing his beast mode against his former Windies skipper Jason Holder.

Making the most of the reprieve he got on 14 when Krunal Pandya dropped him at long-on off Krishnappa Gowtham (2-30), Hetmyer took Holder to cleaners in the 18th over, scoring 18 runs, including two sixes and a four.

From 21 off 25 balls, Hetmyer raced to 52 off 34 balls.

Ravichandran Ashwin, sent ahead of Riyan Parag, also played a key role, scoring 28 off 23 balls before being

retired out, a first in IPL history, just two balls into the penultimate over to let Parag come out to the middle. RR’s tactics paid off as Parag hit a six off the fourth ball of the final over.

Rajasthan Royals were left reeling when skipper Sanju Samson, Padikkal and Rassie vn der Dussen departed in quick succession.
