“We have a pretty clear role for him [Raina]. He has got optimal time. We want him to bat and we’ve afforded the luxury of having a player coming and being aggressive. We value his experience and everything has got a part to play in the middle,” Fleming remarked.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are placed on top of the table with 18 points, thanks to nine victories from 11 games. But the form of veteran middle-order batsman Suresh Raina is a cause of concern for the former champions. The southpaw has managed just 157 runs from 11 matches this season.

However, head coach Stephen Fleming is not worried. “Suresh is an experienced player who has earned the leeway and as the tournament goes on, his performance will improve,” Fleming said during a post-match virtual press conference after CSK’s six-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday. Raina was trapped leg before by West Indian pacer Jason Holder for two against SRH.

“We have a pretty clear role for him [Raina]. He has got optimal time. We want him to bat and we’ve afforded the luxury of having a player coming and being aggressive. We value his experience and everything has got a part to play in the middle,” Fleming remarked.

CSK will lock horns against Rajasthan Royals in Abu Dhabi today.
