India all-rounder Hardik Pandya’s left ankle injury during the ninth over of the Bangladesh innings, gave India a blow.


Pandya was forced to leave the field. Later, BCCI confirmed that he was taken for scans.

However, the Pune crowd was excited to see Virat Kohli being called to bowl the remaining three balls of Pandya’s over. Kohli ran up to bowl his brand of medium pace to Litton Das amidst chants of “Virat…Virat.” Kohli bowled a fuller length delivery which Das played defensively. He conceded only two runs in his next two balls to finish Over No. 9 for India. “Well bowled, Kohli,” the spectators exclaimed.

Interestingly, Kohli bowled an over each in the 2011 World Cup quarter-final against Australia and in the final against Sri Lanka. He was also used for an over in 
the 2015 World Cup semi-final against Australia at Sydney.
