Former Test umpire Piloo Reporter, who officiated in two World Cups (1987 and 1992) apart from being one-half of the first set of neutral umpires (VK Ramaswamy was the other umpire), passed away on Sunday morning in Thane.

Reporter, 84, had been suffering from cerebral contusions and was bedridden. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Reporter became extremely popular with his signature boundary declarations during the 1992 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

He was known for his sense of humour and pleasing personality but brooked no nonsense from players who displayed their aggressive nature to him.
