Shivam Dube’s 59-ball 84 went in vain as Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) lost to Reserve Bank of India (RBI) by seven wickets in the 17th DY Patil T20 Cup at the DY Patil Stadium on Wednesday.

RBI’s Sayan Mondal’s 67 not out off 52 balls and Dhruv Shorey’s 53 off 35 saw them chase down BPCL’s 170-9 with 11 balls to spare. Mondal and Shorey hammered the bowling to all parts of the ground as their 101-run second-wicket partnership put RBI in a good position.

Earlier, Dube played the aggressor, hammering 13 fours and a six. Harshal Jadhav’s (30 not out off 10), including two sixes off the last two balls, got BPCL to a decent total.

“It’s not easy batting in the first innings of [our] first match [of the tournament]. When I came in, the ball was slow off the pitch and swinging. We had lost three wickets, so I wanted to stay till the end to ensure a good total, but we fell around 20 short,” Dube told mid-day.
