India’s U-19 World Cup-winning captain Yash Dhull’s coach Pradeep Kochar has urged his ward not to get distracted by the weekend’s IPL auction and avoid thinking about the kind of money as well as which team he’d play for in the domestic league. Dhull, who scored 229 runs in four World Cup games in the Caribbean recently, led from the front by smashing 82 against South Africa and 110 versus Australia in the semi-final. He has a base price of Rs 20 lakh.

“If you are thinking that I will get Rs 20 lakh, Rs 50 lakh or Rs 1 crore and then I will do this or do that, then you will get distracted. Just be relaxed. Whatever [amount and team] you get in the auction, is good. You will get new coaches with the IPL team, so sincerely work and practise with them,” is Kochar’s message to his ward.

Dhull has joined the Delhi Ranji Trophy team which will play their opening game against Tamil Nadu at Guwahati from February 17. “Yash just needs to think about the Ranji Trophy. He has to stay balanced as this is just the beginning,” Kochar told mid-day from Delhi.

Meanwhile, Dhull’s father Vijay said his son is ready for both—IPL and the red-ball challenge in first-class cricket. “We are not thinking about the IPL. Whatever will happen, will happen. If you want to play for a long time, you need to focus on cricket and not...[other things]. If you play well all things will automatically follow you. If you perform, the IPL team will pick you, otherwise they’ll drop you,” Dhull Sr remarked.
