The tenure of India’s current head coach Rahul Dravid will end at the conclusion of the T20 World Cup to be held in USA and West Indies next month.
Even if Dravid wants to continue, he needs to apply again. “We will call for applications [for the head coach’s job] in the next few days. Dravid’s tenure is coming to an end in June. If he wants to re-apply, he can,” Shah said during a media interaction at the BCCI headquarters on Thursday.

He made it clear that the Indian cricket board is looking to give a long rope to the new coach to implement his ideas; his tenure being three years till the 2027 ODI World Cup. “We are looking for a long-term coach, for three years,” Shah remarked.
Former India captain Dravid, who earlier guided the India U-19 team, was appointed the senior team’s head coach in 2021. After India’s loss to Australia in the ODI. World Cup final in Ahmedabad last November, he got an extension till the T20 World Cup.
When asked about plans to have coaches for different formats in red-ball and white-ball cricket, Shah said it’s up to the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) to take a call on that.
“There is no precedent of different coaches for different formats in Indian cricket. Besides, we have a number of all-format players. Ultimately, it will be the CAC's call. I have to implement what they decide. If the CAC selects a foreign coach, I can’t interfere,” Shah remarked.
The three-member CAC is headed by former Test batsman Ashok Malhotra and comprises India players Jatin Paranjape and Sulakshana Naik.
