Presumably, the Lord’s Cricket Ground would be at the bottom of a list comprising Zaheer Khan’s favourite grounds, considering what happened in his last international game at the spiritual home of cricket.

In the opening Test of the 2011 series, Zaheer limped off the field on the first day with a hamstring injury after sending back England’s left-handed openers Andrew Strauss and Alastair Cook with 62 on the board.

Cook was trapped leg before for 12 and later England skipper Strauss pulls one which lands in Ishant Sharma’s hands at fine leg. This was the sixth time that the southpaw fell to Zaheer in 11 innings. A little later, disaster struck in the India camp as their sprearhead limped off never to return in the series.

Yesterday, the Marylebone Cricket Club elected Zaheer an honorary life member of the club, close on the heels of Virender Sehwag’s membership announcement. Zaheer played three Tests at Lord’s (2002, 2007 and 2011) with his 4 for 79 in the 2007 Test as his best effort. In one-day cricket, the 2002 NatWest Series final will stick in memory forever.

Famous for the batting efforts of Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif, Zaheer claimed 3 for 62.  His victims were Nick Knight, Andrew Flintoff and Michael Vaughan. "I have always enjoyed playing at Lords which is the home of cricket.
"It’s an honour and privilege to be amongst the elite and distinguished group of cricketers who receive this honour from MCC. I humbly accept this membership," said Zaheer.
