France is not usually associated with cricket, but that’s where Yuvraj Singh and Zaheer Khan have gone to work on their fitness in an attempt to get back into the Indian team.
The duo, lynchpins in India’s successful World Cup campaign in 2011, have not been a part of recent Indian squads due to lack of form and fitness.u00a0
The 34-year-old Zaheer last played for India in the Kolkata Test against England in December 2012, while the 32-year-old Yuvraj last donned national colours in January against the same opponents in an ODI.
The two are currently in Brive-la-Gaillarde, Southern France training hard under the renowned trainer Tim Exeter.
Exeter, who runs a high intensity performance centre in Brive-la-Gaillarde, has worked with the likes of Manchester United star Ryan Giggs and some of the world’s top rugby players.
The duo, who are used to five-star accommodation, are staying with a local family as paying guests and undergoing a rigorous 42-day training course, which includes activities like roving, beach running, pilates and cycling.
The training schedule is extremely intense and lasts 4 to 5 hours every day. The The duo are also undertaking anaerobic exercise with some rugby players for company. The exercise regime is used by athletes in non-endurance sports to promote strength, speed and power.u00a0
And going by the images posted by Exeter, Yuvraj and Zaheer on their twitter accounts, the rigid fitness regime will surely get these stars back on the road to redemption and towards achieving their target of playing in the 2015 World Cup.
