India's sporting stars took to social media to hail the nation's war heroes on Kargil Vijay Diwas yesterday. July 26 is celebrated each year in honour of Kargil war's heroes. In 1999, on this day, India successfully took command of the high outposts which had been lost to Pakistani intruders.


Cricket icon tweeted, "Sacrifice, selflessness, honour, valour & courage. Every member of our defence forces is an embodiment of these qualities. Today, on #KargilVijayDiwas, we remember the fallen with deep gratitude & salute those who have served and still serve, putting nation before self. #JaiHind."



Opening batsman Rohit Sharma wrote, "Tell them for their tomorrow, we gave our today: these are the golden words embedded on the Kargil Memorial. Their sacrifice and cannot be put in words."

Indian boxer Vijender Singh wrote, "19 years since the final assault on icy heights.The tricolour proudly fluttering on unclimbable peaks. Proud warriors marching back, having given their all. We should be grateful forever."
