Veteran midfielder Mark van Bommel ended his playing career 20 minutes earlier than planned when he was sent-off on the final day of the Dutch season yesterday.
The 36-year-old was dismissed for a second yellow card in PSV Eindhoven’s 3-1 loss at Twente.u00a0“That’s it, it’s over. It’s a shame that it ended with a red card, but it sums up what a difficult season it has been for the team,” said the PSV skipper.
PSV finished runners-up to Ajax who were champions for a third successive season.u00a0Van Bommel was capped 79 times by the Netherlands and played in the 2010 World Cup final.u00a0He also played for Fortuna Sittard, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and AC Milan.u00a0
