For the first time in the Dr HD Kanga Cricket League's history, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has decided to introduce a two-minute allowance rule for every wicket that falls. The prestigious tournament kicks off on September 13 across Mumbai's maidans.

Much-needed change
The new rule is sure to bring some respite to teams who were often slapped with penalties for struggling to complete 15 over-quotas in an hour last season. In order to avoid such penalty, most teams preferred using spinners over pace bowlers.

"Some concession was definitely required in order to maintain the over-rate rule. Last season, a lot of teams struggled to maintain over-rate, as there are a lot of issues they face on the maidans. The two-minute allowance for every wicket is certainly helpful," said the team manager of a top club.

MCA's Kanga League secretary Arvind Kadam said the rule was not specifically introduced to provide leeway in over-rate. "We thought of introducing the two-minute allowance rule as the Board of Control for Cricket in India practices it.

This suggestion also came from various club captains and secretaries. I hope there will be less penalties on teams this time," said Kadam.
