Suryakumar Yadav is keen to arrest his uneven ride and enjoy a steady time after the 25-year-old Mumbai all-rounder received his maiden India 'A' call-up for the one-off warm-up T20 match against the touring South African side to be played at the Air force Ground in Palam on September 29.

Yadav began his first-class career with an impressive 73 on his Ranji Trophy debut against Delhi in 2010. He capped off his first full Ranji season with a double ton, two centuries and five half-centuries as ended up being the fourth highest run-getter of the tournament with 922 runs in 10 matches.

The early promise, however, started to dip as he suffered a remarkable drop in his form in the following Ranji season, scoring only 73 runs in six innings. Yadav was back among the runs in the 2013-14 season, finishing in the Top 3 run-getters for Mumbai. He was handed the captaincy in the last season before being forced to step down mid-way into the season.

The right time
"It is high time that I grab my opportunity now. The opportunity has come at the right time. I have played for Mumbai for a few years and I know how to deal with it," Yadav told mid-day from Hyderabad where he is playing practice matches for Mumbai.

Yadav was expressionless when the news of his India 'A' selection was delivered to him by his teammate while having lunch. "I had no expression. I was surprised," he said.

Yadav is consciously trying to practice and keep the expectations away since the start of his preparation this season. "Earlier, I would think too much about everything. 'I scored so much, so I should be playing here' and thoughts like that.

I would think too much about success and failures, but now I am concentrating on my process and not the outcome. I am learning to take success and failure in equal measure, something which I realised after talking to our coach Chandrakant Pandit. It is helping me a lot," Yadav signed off.

India 'A' squad for T20 vs SA: Mayank Agarwal, Manan Vohra, Manish Pandey, Mandeep Singh, Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson, Hardik Pandya, Rishi Dhawan, Anureet Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal, Pawan Negi, Kuldeep Yadav.
