The recent claim by former Indian fast bowler S Sreesanth's family that the player was attacked with a knife has not gone down well with the Tihar Jail authorities.

Sreesanth was attacked with a knife while he was in jail after being arrested for his alleged involvement in IPL spot-fixing in 2013, his family said late last week.

False claims
"This is totally untrue," Sunil Gupta, the law officer of Tihar Jail, said over telephone from New Delhi.

"The bowler never complained about this, nor did he bring it to our knowledge," he added.

"Perhaps Sreesanth's family is trying to get court sympathy."

"Sreesanth's trial has now been completed in a court in Delhi. The verdict is expected to be pronounced early this month. The family is trying to influence the judge by releasing this kind of story.

"A true judge will never be influenced with this kind of statement," Gupta opined.

The 32-year-old pace bowler, while playing for his franchise Rajasthan Royals, was arrested on charges of match fixing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2013 and is presently out on bail.

On December 12, 2013, Sreesanth married Bhuvneshwari Kumari of Shekhawat family at Guruvayur Sri Krishna temple in Kerala.
