Shreyas not upset at missing ton, says father Santosh Iyer

Skipper Rohit Sharma's heroic 208 was not the only positive for Team India in the second ODI against Sri Lanka at Mohali. Shreyas Iyer's 88 in only his second one-day international was another major takeaway for the Men in Blue. Although the Mumbai batsman was furious after holing out to midwicket, he had no regrets on missing out on his maiden ton. When Iyer was dismissed, India still had another 27 balls to complete its full quota of 50 overs.

Speaking to mid-day yesterday, Iyer's father Santosh hoped for a century. "I was a bit disappointed that he got out after coming so close to a century. I told him that he should have aimed at completing his hundred," he said from Mumbai. Iyer's response shocked his father. "Shreyas was disappointed to get out in that manner, but he had no regrets over missing out on his century. He told me that he will get ample opportunities to score one, but at that point of time in the match he was required to go for his shots," said Iyer Sr. "He has always been a team man. Even at school cricket and age-group tournaments, he has always done what the situation demanded for his team," Santosh added.
