Nari Contractor, who like Ajit Wadekar, Bishan Singh Bedi and Gundappa Viswanath were not invited to Kanpur where the Board of Control for Cricket in India celebrated India's 500th Test, reckons India's victories before 1971 are not talked about as they should be.

"I don't know whether it's a case of people not knowing the history of Indian cricket or is it that we don't exist," Contractor told mid-day on Saturday.

The 82-year-old former captain wondered why India's first ever Test win over Australia at Kanpur in 1959-60 is not talked about.

"That win was memorable and we beat a star-studded Australian team comprising Richie Benaud, Neil Harvey, Norman O'Neill, Alan Davidson and Ian Meckiff. Also, people don't mention our series win over England in 1961-62 when we beat Ted Dexter's team 2-0. They were hard-earned victories," emphasised Contractor, who captained India to that glory.
