London: Sunday afternoon's NatWest t20 Blast game at Arundel has been abandoned after two Surrey fielders collided going for a catch. The players were taken off as three ambulances made their way onto the pitch to treat Moises Henriques and Rory Burns after the duo apparently clashed heads in the 19th over, with Sussex 141 for seven.

The two players left the ground "conscious and sitting up" soon after, and the decision was taken to call the game off. Sussex tweeted: "MATCH ABANDONED due to the serious collision. We really appreciate your patience but the welfare of the players is of paramount importance."


Surrey added: "Latest is Rory Burns and Moises Henriques have left the ground in ambulances but both players are conscious and sitting up." Twenty-four-year-old opening batsman Burns was reportedly unconscious for five minutes after the horrifying clash, while 28-year-old all-rounder Henriques is thought to have lost teeth in the incident.


Updates aplenty
Surrey tweeted: "Horrible collision between two Surrey fielders running for a catch..fingers crossed." Sussex added: "A nasty collision in the deep as two Surrey players converge to try and take the same catch. Physios rush on. Let's hope they're okay. "Play has now officially been suspended. The rest of the players have been taken from the pitch whilst the players affected are treated."

Surrey continued to keep their followers updated on the situation, posting: "We have now 3 ambulances on the field of play treating Rory Burns and Moises Henriques... "Both Rory Burns and Moises Henriques are leaving the ground in an ambulance...." The home team added: "UPDATE: Both players have now left the pitch in ambulances and we pray that they are okay. Sending our best wishes #cricketfamily"
